tutorial: DIY signs

was preparing how to decorate my reception table at the hotel, i came across this new trend which is to put up signs...
DIY signs picture taken from here...
this is the type of signs i was talking about... i think it will be quite nice to decorate at the reception table.. easier for people to know which ballroom to go especially when there are other weddings happening at the same place.... of cause you can just order online, it's not say super expensive... is about $1 per letter but cheapo me want to DIY... not only to safe $ but i like to do some small handicraft stuff so i decided to DIY.... its actually pretty simple...

materials needed:
nice A4 papers
scissor & pencil
glue
ribbon

thats really all the materials you need.. the number of papers you need will depend on how big you wan each sign to be... i dont want mine to be super HUGE cause it will contain our names... so i dont want it to be too big.... my size is that each card is 1/4 of an A4 size paper.... save paper too =) then you can choose any colours you like, but need at least 2... 1 for the background & 1 for the wordings.... for me... i go for bronze as the background & beige for the wording.... similar to the one that the shop is selling =p

Steps:

1. find suitable fonts...
there are many type of fonts available... i like the type used by the shop but somehow i just cant find the exact font... so i have to modify....

lost salon font, size 70
lost salon is the closest font type that i can find.. but the round edges are not the same... so i made some adjustments...

modify fonts
so yup... rounded the edges to make it more bubbly =)

2. decide on the border...

border
i downloaded this border from the net... i believed there are other kinds but this looks nice

so i printed the border on the paper so that it will be easier for me to cut out each card

3. cut out the words, invert them & trace onto the paper that you want...
if you have the exact fonts that you want then can print out directly & cut... but since i modify the fonts by hand, i have to do manual tracing... & i have to invert the letters so that when i cut out, i dont have to erase the pencil marks... just being lazy...

tracing

inverted letters
4. more cutting

so now you have the background piece & the wording... you will need to punch 2 holes on the top for the ribbon to go through....

5. paste the word onto the background & you are done =)
final product

easy right!??!?! i mean it does take some time to do it... but i think is quite fun to do... & i felt it makes the signs more meaningful cause you DIY it =)
