cafebiz @ hotel jen

*back dated entry*

today is our annual lab lunch, normally we will do it in december but due to everyone's holiday schedule, prof decided to push forward the lunch date.... same as last year, we went to cafebiz & only then we realised traders hotel is gone!?!?!? it has been changed to hotel jen... according to my lab members, the boss is still the same but just change name for the hotel... i dont know why they want to do that, maybe for feng shui? anyway... i dont care about the name, is the food that we are concerned about =) so lets move onto the food pictures =)

roast meat aread

roast chicken

dessert

coffee area

DIY rojak

sushi

seafood

bread section

salad

fruits/salad
i would say the spread was not as good as last year... the very least we didnt have roast turkey this year =( & then the salad section shrink too... there was no CORN!!! i was like OMG!!! where is my corn... so i didnt go for salad this year.... let me share what i ate at the buffet...

1st round = rojak & appetizer

seafood + bread

meat + indian delight

sushi + porridge
dessert
haha... now then i realised i ate a total of 5plates of food!!! i mean they are not like packed to the brim so i think i didnt overeat =p i think my favourite was the DIY rojak since i can add ALOT of you tiao & fried bean curd skin inside.. yummmy.... the choice of sushi was very limited so i only had 1 piece.... another of my favourite was the bread section, they had quite a spread over there... i had the pretzel with garlic butter... NICE!!! but had to avoid too much carbo since it's a taboo for buffet.... the braised port was quite nice & tender but way too salty for my liking... the roast pork was nice & crispy too.... normally dessert corner is my favourite but the 1 at cafebiz was just average... the waffle was not tasty but chocolate moose cake was not bad....

on the whole, cafebiz buffet is still quite nice, the choice of food will vary depending on the seasons i guess... so probably december will be a better time to go.... if i am not wrong the price for cafebiz is $47++/pax... last time my prof told us there was 1 for 1 but nowadays i not sure... but since it's free food, no complain =)

cafebiz @ traders hotel

today is our annual lab lunch so this yr, our prof brought us to cafebiz at traders hotel.... quite excited cause another lab member said that the food there was not bad... & hotel food ma, shouldn't be too bad la....

xmas welcome us at the lobby
the café table setup
first impression of the place was not too bad, relatively spacious but from the look... the choice of food doesn't seem to be ALOT.... let me share of the food pic I took.....

the rojak corner
 sushi.... quite limited choices
the fruits/salad section
some fresh seafood & appetizer
coffee corner...
indian vegetarian corner.... different kinds of gravy
I find the different coloured sugar container quite pretty... so took a pic... this isn't food wor
different salad dressing
is dec, so there is turkey
dessert corner
ice cream + ice kajang machine
more ice kajang topping & chocolate fondue

these are majority of the food there, there is still the laksa, roast meat & some other cooked food section which I lazy to take the pic.....  I was really disappointed with the Japanese food section, I expected much more sushi variety... & the lack of sashimi was totally shocking... & the sushi wasn't well prepared either... so deh deh for Japanese food.... lets move onto the food I sampled
1st round of food

prawns were ok... sushi deh deh... soba average.... I love the salad I made... I added lettues, LOTS of corn, bacon bits, pumpkin seeds, almond flakes & top with Caesar dressing... really very nice... love the sweetness from the corn & crunchiness from the nuts....
2nd round of food

porridge ok.... normal plain porridge whereby u can add any toppings.... I didn't like the turkey, kind of dry... broccoli gratin was like my god, where is the cheese? is just like boiled veggie.... baked veggie were ok... bread with garlic butter were of cause nice.... the feta gravy was not bad.. papadam was nice.... really love that.... actually by now I am quite full already.... but I still haven't tried my rojak so must still expand my stomach abit more
3rd round of food

THE rojak... ok.... not bad... but I like the crispy dao pok & you tiao.... chili prawn was average, the ox cheek stew was nice & tender, creamy dory thing was quite nice too... veggie average... greedy me went to take papadam again & the gravy... but really too full... I barely ate this round of food.... but no matter how full I was, I MUST still eat dessert.....
last round of food

can see how full I was that I only took so little for the dessert... got quite a number of cakes but really... cant stuff myself anymore... I only took the chocolate mousse cake, quite rich & not bad... fruits were ok... waffle was freshly made so not too bad....

in short, I think the buffer at traders hotel was ok... at least is one-for-one so I can make do with this selection of food... but personally my favourite is Japanese cuisine so I guess this Asian style buffet isn't really for me

Review: Traders hotel wedding banquet

i didnt go for this dinner banquet so i am basing this review on his comment

Location: relatively convenient, tanglin area, not near mrt but still got quite a number of buses around = still ok la
Ambience: lobby & ballroom area quite cramp, not too much space... is a rectangular ballroom
Food: sadly, my bf was seated at the malay table, so cant comment on how was the chinese food... but he certainly didnt like the food there... he said everything was just spicy and majority of the dishes were prawn based... i mean cant complain much la, need to be halal = no pork then hard to accommodate ma... & then to match the price for chinese dinner/table, then the best ingredient to use is prawn lo...
Service: quite bad, the waiters were not very attentive.. of coz cant expect to be treated like a king but hey... basic service like serving me drinks when i ask for refill??
Price: $1088++, min 15

Conclusion: the most tempting part is definitely the price, one of the cheapest among the hotels i saw & certainly fit the min number of guests that we need... definitely inside our consideration but perhaps have to compensate abit for the food & services
