funny video

came across this funny video on my facebook recently & want to share with you guys.... it is the parody made from "let it go" .... i bet everyone know that song & it is still super popular especially among young kids.....  this group of medical students from university of chicago made this parody, the lyrics revolve around their everyday life in the hospital....

i believed there are other parodies out there on the net but this is really funny especially for science students... after watching this parody, i am so tempted to make one myself... talking about the everyday experiment but doubt if i am so talented to do it... haha.... have fun watchin =)

FREE wedding invitation templates

want to share with everyone some very useful sites that i came across today, especially for those who want to design their own wedding invitation cards.....

so hari raya is coming & my future mother-in-law want to give out our wedding invitation cards to their friends during the open house.... although we have the official card printing services from our banquet package, we cant print it yet as my mama say we cant give out before the 过大礼ceremony.... so... we have to print a temporary notice/invitation cards for those who are coming for the open house.....

i was surfing the net for some free template as i am not an artistic person, i cant design.... when i google, the sites might say is free template but end up not so or they have only 1 free template..... after some search, i found several good sites to get  free templates....

1. Love & Lavender
this sites doesnt have too many templates & is more on the simple side.... so for those who prefer simple designs... this site is good...

tandem bike designs
2. wedding chicks

3. boho wedding
this site only have 1 free sample but the birdy is cute =) & the blogger teach you how to DIY the card
really nice design
4. printable invitation kits
i like this site most because it has the most options available.... they have more fancy designs too =)
flower border

after looking at all the different designs, i have decided on the flower wreath....

commencement 2014 + soup restaurant dinner

*back dated entry*

i have FINALLY & OFFICIALLY graduated on 12th July 2014!!! YEAH!!!! second time attending commencement, then i realised time really flies.... it was 5yrs ago when i graduated with my degree.... after 9yrs in NUS, i have obtained my PhD title..... although i am very unhappy with the NUS systems, there are just too many shitty people around who do nothing but create trouble for others, i do feel grateful that i was given the opportunity to do my postgraduate study... actually when i collected my graduation gown 2wks ago... i felt amazing... i didnt expect myself to be able to obtain the Doctorate title.... i am neither the super smart kind of people nor the super hardworking people.... but i was lucky that i managed to get the scholarship to further my studies... so till this date, i am still quite puzzled that i didnt get kicked out.... really want to express my gratitude to my prof who has been so patient with me & wrote me recommendation letter & guided me to the research field.... also great thanks to my family & my bf who are so supportive during my studies.... & of cause the lab & everyone who has helped me in 1 way or another....

shake hands with Prof Tan
after 9yrs in NUS, this is the first time i met Prof Tan Chorh Chuan lea... big shot lea.... when i saw the pre-ceremony video, Dr Tony Tan came down for the first commencement slot lea.... super BIG shot.... & this year the trend was to take selfie.... there were quite a number of students who took selfie with the presenter during the ceremony.... i know is cool but then it will cause trouble for others since their actions will delay the schedule... but heng that there wasnt any of such people on sat, so the event ended earlier than i thought....

beautiful bouquets
really thankful for those who came down to take pictures with me... love the rilakkuma graduation bear than my bf gotten from taobao.... he has been keeping it for more than 1yr =p

after that we went to clementi mall for dinner & my jiejie choose soup restaurant cause they went to crystal jade for lunch...  luckily we came earlier  & beat the dinner crowd... so we managed to have this semi-private corner for ourselves...

steam chicken with minced ginger

fried rice

braised tofu

some vegetarian thing

cereal prawn

corn, carrot+pork rib soup

desserts
personally i am not a fan of soup restaurants, i felt their dishes taste average & slightly on the pricey side.... the steam chicken was the best dish of the night, the fried rice was not bad too.... however, i was quite disappointed with the cereal prawn, it just tasted very spicy... not to mention dessert.... all super sweet = sugar water only... BUT at least we had a comfortable dinner =)

review: orchard hotel wedding banquet

*back dated entry*

went down for my friends' (also my bf's friend) wedding dinner at orchard hotel yesterday.... pretty excited to try out their food since we wanted to hold our wedding there but didnt manage to get the slot for our date....

Location: despite being located in orchard, the hotel isnt very convenient if you dont have any buses that stopped nearby the hotel... the hotel is next to orchard delfi/diagonally opposite forum & orchard parade hotel.... so to me, i would consider it to be at the end of orchard road... it will  take a good 15min walk to reach the hotel from orchard mrt.... there is a bus stop just down the road from orchard hotel but that road is a 1 way traffic so it will definitely be inconvenient for 1 of the trip

Ambience: my friend gotten ballroom 2 & 3... i believed she has like 30+ tables & for that ballroom size, it can easily accomodate 45-50 tables... so it was really spacious...the ceiling is also very high with big chandelier so it looked really grand..... however the reception area was abit cramp cause there was another wedding at ballroom 1... luckily there was usher at the escalator or else we would mix up the reception area....

Food: i would say standard wedding banquet food but the main stable dish was really unexpected... it was fried mantou with chili crab sauce.... we were like " wah... that's interesting" .... so on the whole, the food & portion wise are average....

the menu

Service: i would say slightly below average because some of the staff sort of "throw" the dish on the table... normally the waiter will put the plate down & gesture the guests to start but there was like 1 or 2 waiters who just put the dish down bluntly & with a very unwilling expression..... like when we ask for more drinks, they also gave us the "WTH, why you bother me & asked for so many things" kind of face... we suspect they were part timers as they didnt look very professional........ but thankfully that was just the few of them....

Price: based on last year rate, it cost $1118++/pax... the standard price lo

Conclusion: on the whole, i think orchard hotel is still a not too bad choice to hold your wedding banquet... have to compensate a little on the location but it is still considered in town so not too bad.... i think it is hard to find a ballroom with high ceiling with that price so i think that is the bonus point =)

feedback: enchanted nails

*back-dated entry*

as i blogged previously, i bought a deal before for gel manicure at enchanted nails to prepare for my pre-wedding photoshoot... the final product was not bad but it DIDNT last!!!! i went to do my nails on 27th june, actually that very night i notice a little bit of the gel is coming out on 1 of my finger... i thought maybe it happened to have air bubbles there so it didnt stick very well to my nails so i just ignore it.... then after afew days i notice that the gel manicure (at end of my nail area) is slowly peeling out for 2 of my fingers.... then i went for my cosfest chalet & by monday (7th july)... almost all the manicure is peeling out for all my fingers!!??!?! i was like WHAT!!! my friends all told me gel manicure can last at least 1 month lea... i didnt do any hard labour or soak my nails in any solution... i only did normal bathing & shampooing.... even for BBQ i didnt do much of cooking... then in 1wk, my manicure is gone!??!?!?! i was still thinking if i can keep the manicure more than 1 month & not go back for the free removal....

peeling gel manicure
you can see from the picture that i have highlighted area where the manicure is peeling from... actually the picture didnt do justice to the peeling... it may look minimal here but actually the peeling is quite obvious & you can peel off the gel yourself.... i must admit i itchy hand & i buay tahan the ugly manicure that i peel+scrap off the gel myself & the result is horrible!!!

spoiled nails
is really bad to remove the gel manicure yourself... as it stick to your nails, then as you scrap out the gel, it will also peel off some part of the nails.... is just the surface so your fingers wont bleed or what but then your nails will look super ugly after that.... i highlighted the marks with pink arrows... my nails look like those leftover glue mark when you try to peel off the price tag from the packaging... i can always go back to the salon to get the gel manicure removed but this week i was just too busy to go to places other than school & home... so i had to DIY....

in conclusion, i feel that the gel manicure wasnt well done by the staff.... the whole process took less than 20min (including shaping & cleaning of nails)... the staff was rushing to finish the job so i suspect there wasnt enough time for each gel layer to dry properly which resulted in this peeling phenomena... i understand that the package was under promotion so they may not give me the best gel polish & i dont expect the nails to last more than 1 month... but seriously... peeling in less than 1wk?!?!?!? that's quite ridiculous.... i wont say it will happen to all the customers or else the shop would have closed down by now... but personally i will never go back to enchanted nails again.... once bitter, twice shy....

cosfest 2014

*back dated entry*

the annual cosfest is over!!!! fyi: cosfest is the annual cosplay event which is held at downtown east D'Marquee during July.... the official information can be obtained here... it is a 2 days event, usually the first weekend in July... so for this year, it took place during 5th-6th July

the same as every other year, i am always rushing for the costumes before the events, as i am a last min person & also the lack of time to do the stuff in lab....this year our friend didnt manage to ballot for the chalet due to the ongoing renovations so we had to do last min booking & there was so much hooha about it... but thankfully we still managed to get a room for ourselves =)

for this year event, i didnt really have the mood to cosplay as i cant really find any character that i want to do & also the lack of interest... getting kind of tired of cosplaying... i love to sew the costume & make pretty props/accessories but during the event itself, i will feel super sian to dress up.... another thing is that those old timers also kind of die down on cosplaying so i see lesser familiar faces each time = double sian.... so this year i just want to wear kimono for the events since i wanted to wear one for my wedding photoshoot.... i have blog previously about this character i wanted to cosplay since she wear pretty kimono.... so i managed to finish her costume on time...
yune
lovely kimono right?!?!?! especially the headdress... pretty!!!! sadly i couldnt manage to find the exact prints for the kimono so i had to make do with alternatives....

back view
close up on the obi prints

lovely headdress
please pardon my tying of obi cause i didnt have time to find out the proper way to tie it upright... the prints i would say ok similar la.... but i am very proud of the obi since i painted it myself.. not bad right =) & the headdress.... lovely!!!! very proud of the final product....

so that was my costume for day 1 of the event... for 2nd day i wore the kimono i intended to use for my wedding shoot.... made the matching set for my bf too =)

front view
back view
quite nice right!?!?! love the prints.... maybe slightly on the flowery side compared to the usual kimono but this is the best i can find.... i didnt have time to do the headdress so i substitute with one that i made previously.... quite matching too...

front view
back view
my bf set which encompass the kimono top, haori & hakama.... took me quite a long time to figure out how to sew the hakama..... the haori material is too thin so it look abit messy... but is again the best alternative i can find.... i will put up the tutorial on how to sew kimono+hakama+hair accessories soon....

back to the event.... i am slightly disappointed this year because i didnt manage to see a lot of nice costumes.... normally i will look for inspiration to cosplay during the event but this year, other than the nice armour from monster hunter... the other costumes are just so so.... perhaps this year, everybody are lazy to cosplay.. haha... but at least we enjoyed our stay... we had our annual BBQ during the chalet & nice catch up session.... for those who are interested to see the event photos, they can be found in the sgcafe forum.... link here.... =)

pre-wedding photoshoot feedback + dinner @ gyoza king

*back dated entry*

had my pre-wedding shoot with La Belle on 30th june but only had time to post about it later on... La Belle studio isnt at tanjong pagar but 207 Henderson Road, is at those few storey buildings behind the bukit merah bus interchange... we were kind of rushing to the studio so didnt have time to take picture of the surrounding... we were expecting some La belle signboard outside the building but hell no... that place just look like a multi-storey garage... we were like looking around before a kind uncle at the opposite building told us to go up from the side staircase... apparently he was experienced enough to know that we shua ku come here for the studio shoot... kind souls..... or else we will take a longer time to reach our destination.... the studio is located on the 3rd floor... no lift... i saw the email from peiwen (our coordinator) that we can access via stairs but i was still hoping there to be a lift somewhere but nope.... stairs only.... the lighting wasnt very good either, so the stairs looked kind of spokey....

as no outside photography is allowed at the studio so again, i dont have any pictures to share.... but the studio is kind of big... at least compared to the neighbourhood studio that my jiejie had for her wedding photoshoot... there are about 10 spots for shoot but is all about capturing the angle & with the right lighting... so anyway we arrived on the dot at 9.30am but anna was slightly late but still sufficient time for makeup.... & it really took like 1.5hr to complete the makeup+hairdo+ changing into gown... the simple makeup+hairdo for my bf took like mayb 15min?? haha what a big difference....

our photographer, kenny came about 11+ to set up his equipments & all... we quite like his working style, quite friendly & try to mingle with us... as we are not professional models, we maybe stiff when taking pictures... kenny will try to position us, where to look & how to smile.... nice guy.... as i have 3 gowns for indoor shoot, we were really rushing  for time... it may take less than 30min to shoot each sets of gowns but it take about 1hr to change the look... tiring.... as the place is really ulu, there isnt any food stores around, the best way is to order delivery unless you have helpers for that day... as it was a monday, we couldnt get hold of any friends to help out so we had to order mac.... so if possible, it will be nice to have someone to help out....

about 3pm we set out for outdoor shoot... the first location is henderson wave area... it was drizzling then & the sky looked kind of dark... we were getting worried cause we wanted to end with a sunset shoot & it wont be possible with a gloomy sky.....we quickly finished the shoot at henderson then drove all the way to punggol lalang field.... since we wont go back to the studio to change, we had to change at outside toilet... again... it will be helper to have your girl friends to help with the change... for me, i only had my bf to help & it was such a difficult chore to change in the handicap toilet especially with the long train.... but somehow we managed.... sadly the lalang field isnt at its prime so there wasnt alot of lalang... & it was drizzling still.... after that we walked over to the punggol water park & the sky start to clear... *happy* surprising, that park is quite a nice place to shoot & good for family to hang out.... last location was the seletar reservoir.... & we were lucky that the rain had stopped & we had a nice sunset view!!! YEAH!!!! so the photoshoot ended about 6+ with our nice sunset background =) after that we returned to La belle to change out as well as making the next 40% payment.... ouch... $ gone.... really excited to see the photo but it will take about a month later...

after which, we went to have dinner at gyoza king which is just down the road from la belle.... lucky for us, the shop wasnt very packed but the ramen store next to us had a super long queue.... might consider trying out the ramen next time when there wasnt so many people....
how to prepare your own gyoza sauce

free beansprout & cabbage pickle... nice =)

vegetable soup... is like meatless borch... yummy

pork gyoza

rice with lots of furikake!!!!

sides....
so for each set it comes with rice(difference size at no additional charge), 5pcs gyoza (pork, chicken or prawn), miso/vegetable soup & 2 side dishes....all these at affordable prices of $13.90!!!! (or was it $15.90, i cant remember the exact price) at first i thought i wont be full but actually, i couldnt finished the rice.... the side dishes were so so but gyoza were really not bad.... & the best thing was that it has different type of meat, NOT only pork filling, so that more people can eat... ie: my bf... cause he doesnt eat pork... so he had prawn gyoza.... i think gyoza king is quite a nice japanese store with affordable prices.... will definitely go back again =)

JUMBO seafood & coffee club @ clarke quay

*back dated entry*

been so busy recently that didnt manage to blog till like 2wks later.... so went down to try jumbo seafood for dinner after my niece bday party.... that was my first time trying jumbo seafood as i am always deter by the crowd & the price.... we wanted to make a reservation but there is nobody to pick up the call so we had to go down to the clarke quay outlet to try our luck... & luckily we managed to get a seat after like 15min wait....

jumbo @ clarke quay

the dinning table

my niece with the jumbo apron... she refuses to show me her face..

chili crab with fried mantou
front: some wrap with pork floss, middle:scallop with broccoli, back: tofu with mushroom

steam crab with egg white & soy milk
hmmm that was the first time i tried chili crab after staying in SG for almost 20yrs.... i think the taste was ok, not as fantastic as i imagined it to be.... the steam crab actually tasted better... & surprisingly the egg white with soy milk taste nice... is like very smooth steam egg..... other dishes i would say they are just normal, can get them at any other chinese restaurant or zhicha place..... on the whole, i think jumbo seafood is only good if you really want to eat crab, other than that, i dont see the need to go there for a meal.... for the amount of food we ordered, it cost about $240.... we had a total of 5adults & 2 kids... not say SUPER expensive, but i dont think is really value for $....

after dinner, we went to coffee club at THE central for dessert... we reached the store like 8.50pm & all the lights in the cafe were off... we thought the cafe was closed but apparently the closing time was 10pm & the staff said that's the normal lighting.... but oh well.... we ordered a mudpie to share...
coffee club
view from the cafe
the cafe
from the picture, the cafe doesnt look that dark but it actually does..... & there was nobody in the cafe other than us.... so i think is a good chill out place if you entered the store earlier...
mudpie
lychee ice
the mudpie is considered quite big.... taste was normal.... jiejie ordered lychee ice & we like the refreshing taste.... we slacked there for like 30min before kena chased out by the staff.... slightly disappointed with the service there cause the manager was like watching her drama & ignored us then the other waiter was like bo bian but to serve us.... but at least we had a aircon place to chill before heading home =)
